SS-31
Also known as: Elamipretide, Bendavia, MTP-131
A mitochondria-targeted peptide for cellular energy and tissue protection.
Overview
SS-31 is a cell-permeable tetrapeptide that selectively concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It protects mitochondrial function and has shown promise in conditions involving mitochondrial dysfunction.
Mechanism of Action
Binds cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing cristae structure and optimizing electron transport chain function. Reduces ROS production and prevents cytochrome c release.
Pharmacokinetics
Rapid cellular uptake with mitochondrial targeting. Half-life approximately 4 hours.
