Argireline
Also known as: Acetyl Hexapeptide-3, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Botox in a Bottle
A topical peptide that reduces expression lines by inhibiting neurotransmitter release.
Overview
Argireline is a synthetic hexapeptide that mimics the N-terminal of SNAP-25, interfering with SNARE complex formation similar to botulinum toxin but applied topically. It reduces the depth of wrinkles caused by facial expressions, particularly around the eyes and forehead.
Mechanism of Action
Competes with natural SNAP-25 for position in SNARE complex, destabilizing it and reducing vesicle docking and neurotransmitter release. Results in decreased muscle contraction and reduced expression line depth.
Pharmacokinetics
Topical penetration to reach neuromuscular junctions. Effects milder than injectable Botox. Requires consistent application.
Dosing Protocols

Research Areas
Key Research Findings
- 1Up to 30% wrinkle reduction in studies
- 2Non-invasive alternative to Botox
- 3Effects are milder but cumulative
- 4Well-tolerated topically
Side Effects & Contraindications
Reported Side Effects
- Rare skin irritation
Contraindications
- Peptide sensitivity
Safety Considerations
Cosmetic ingredient with good safety profile. Generally non-irritating. Results less dramatic than injectable treatments.
