Secretin
Also known as: Secretin Human, SecreFlo
A GI hormone that stimulates pancreatic and biliary secretion for diagnostic testing.
Overview
Secretin is a 27-amino acid peptide hormone produced by S cells in the duodenum. It stimulates pancreatic bicarbonate secretion and is used diagnostically to evaluate pancreatic function and in gastrinoma (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome) diagnosis.
Mechanism of Action
Binds to secretin receptors on pancreatic duct cells, stimulating bicarbonate and water secretion. Inhibits gastric acid secretion. Stimulates bile flow from liver.
Pharmacokinetics
Rapid IV administration for diagnostic use. Half-life approximately 5 minutes.
Dosing Protocols
Note: These are research protocols from literature. This is not medical advice.
